COTTON BROKERING WITH A PERSONAL APPROACH

Danny R. Holland and Company was established in June 1995 by Danny Holland, recognizing the need for a local cotton brokerage firm in Panola County. His vision was to offer cotton producers in Panola County and surrounding areas the advantage of having a Mississippi-based cotton agent right at their doorstep.

A few years later, Megan joined the business, working under Danny’s mentorship. During this time, she developed a deep passion for working with farmers, helping them market their crops to maximize profitability each year.

In 2024, Megan took over the company, forming DRH Cotton, continuing the commitment to support local producers with trusted brokerage services.

OUR TEAM

DANNY HOLLAND, FOUNDER

Danny Holland is a 1974 graduate of the University of Mississippi with a degree in Marketing. While in college, he accepted a job with Dunavant Enterprises Inc. At Dunavant, Holland enrolled in Murdoch’s International Cotton School and finished in that same year, so he could become a cotton classer at the company. After one year at the company, he accepted a position in international relations department, where he entertained international clients for Dunavant Enterprises.

In January 1976, Holland accepted a position with Oxford Production Credit Association. He ran the Batesville Branch office where he made operation loans and mortgage loans in Panola and Yalobusha Counties to producers. In 1979, Holland accepted a position with National Bank of Commerce in Pine Bluff, Arkansas working in their Agriculture Department making production loans and mortgage loans. During his time there, Holland attended multiple banking schools which allowed him become the head of the Agriculture Trust Depart, as well.

In 1981, Holland was approached by a local banker and various producers to come back to Batesville, Miss., and open up a cotton brokerage firm. After much consideration, Holland partnered with another individual to launch the cotton brokerage business for producers in Panola County and surrounding areas. After working in the firm for 24 years, Holland opened his own company, Danny R. Holland and Co., in 1995. Running DRH Cotton for this many years has helped Holland gain tremendous knowledge of the cotton business and allowed him to continue to help producers make wise decisions on farming finances and business moves.

MEGAN HOLLAND RUCKER, OWNER

Megan Rucker is a 2014 gradate of Mississippi State University with a degree in Accountancy and a minor in Communications. Right after college, she started working for KPMG as an Auditor. From there, she accepted a position as a Financial Analyst for Gun Dog Supply in Starkville, Miss. During Rucker’s time at Gun Dog, she expanded her knowledge of financials in order to plan for a company's goals, gained a more in depth understanding about small business accounting, and acquired some knowledge on dog training. After three years at the company, Rucker felt that the cotton industry was an option she needed to pursue. With that, she had a few meetings with Dr. O.A. Cleveland, a Professor Emeritus of Agriculture Economics at Mississippi State University, and decided it was a smart move to work with her father, Danny. Within Rucker’s first year with DRH Cotton, she attended the American Cotton Shippers Association International Cotton Institute. There, she learned about the vast layers of the cotton industry—farming, ginning, buying and selling, the cotton futures market, puts and calls, how cotton mills work, shipping and more.

After five years working alongside Danny, Megan discovered her passion for helping cotton producers by studying markets, minimizing their costs, and maximizing their profits. She achieves this by understanding each producer’s unique needs, their history, and the most effective marketing strategies for them. Megan is especially focused on reducing costs and taking on administrative burdens so that farmers can concentrate on what they do best—harvesting.

In 2024, after Danny decided to retire, Megan took over the company, forming DRH Cotton. Her dedication to local producers continues, with a mission to help farmers thrive despite the increasing challenges they face today.
